I don't have much by way of posessions in-game so I don't really give many things away =P

I don't mind helping people out, answering questions, giving free runs and things like that though.
I haven't found anyone who was completely ungrateful yet either ^^;
(Though, I tend not to help people I feel are begging or just being lazy)

While there aren't too many opportunities presented to help people in the general course of gameplay.
I find that most of the time I spend in Pre-Searing consists of helping people
...with anything from opening the gate/getting the res signet to taking them on a tour over the wall and explaining the best ways to kill the charr n.n;

Eh, if I happen to be in the same district as the poor sod innocently asking a simple question like 'How do I get an Assassin secondary for my Dervish?', I'll drop a PM. Usually they go 'oh thanks, everyone in local was calling me a noob'.

I am not so charitable as to sit in a PUG which is demanding I run this, run that, run everything-under-the-sun-despite-me-pointing-out-various-problems-with-what-they-want... I'll just leave without a word.

If someone sounds genuinely confused, I'll explain things if I can. The flarespammer ele sitting pretty in Ring of Fire HM gets absolutely no sympathy, though.

I don't give out money except to guildies, who are all friends of mine IRL, and we do that for each other - I farmed over 2k party points for the boyfriend during - I think it was CNY; he gave me all the DoA gems he picked up because I wanted a Torment Shield (it matched my armour); another time I handed out my extra juniberry branches and they gave me extra chromatic scales, that kind of thing. Sweet/party/drunk points exchange hands between us pretty frequently, too, as do tomes. We're pretty share-and-share alike when it comes to stuff like that. <3

I am almost never charitable with the people I dont know. Never given stuff to noobs, helped them with missions for lulz etc.

With the people I do know, I am almost always willing to help out with something. A tough mission or what have you, I am glad to help out friends. I dont often offer to give away things, but if the need is there for something, I am almost always willing to give. After all, they do the same for me.

It's a very, very rare occurence for me to give away stuff to random strangers. But I will answer questions when I see 'em being asked. I don't often help strangers with missions/quests. I've usually got other plans already in the works. But I will jump in and help Guildies and friends get things done.

I answer ~90% of the queries in AC ranging from pc requests to questions about quests, builds, SCs and what have you. I get a lot of pm's from random ppl who I probably helped once or twice but dont have on my FL, and I try to answer as many as I can, even though not letting them know I dont remember 'em can be a bit tricky at times (particularly when they flat out say "remember me?" :P)

But I refuse to be charitable with items, money or helping people in missions/quests that I do not need. I believe that is wasteful and unproductive for me.

I've done a few giveaways on guru.
In game, I used to do a lot of helping people. Almost 2 years of my playing was helping out people whose name I didn't even know (i.e. mostly alliance people, haha). It was great fun, though, having a whole guild of people show up just to help 1 person with something.
I also used to do alliance giveaways... 25-100k/day. I did it for a while, but things started to die down, so it wasn't as much fun
Oddly, I tend not to give a lot to my friends because 99% of them are incredibly talented players and have the means to make good amounts of their own cash (this includes guildies).

Somewhere along the line I got quite cynical and don't do as much anymore, though. It's quite true that people don't appreciate it, and they push it by always asking for more (I've even had this happen with my giveaway contest on guru). It's kinda sad, but I find that it usually happens with the younger folk (<18).

I never give stuff away. If I knew that the person would appreciate it then maybe I would.

I've heard people say that I'm pretty generous. I tend to give away everything that I don't need, and after doing everything that can be done on the PvE side I don't need anything anymore ... which means that all my income goes to charity. Just this week I gave away (among other things) a mini Yakkington. It's all pixels anyway, if I can make somebody happy through manipulating some bits on a remote server then that's as good a reason to play as any.

I'm also known for giving (relevant) advice to people who ask for it at outposts, or even helping total strangers with whatever they need (quests, running etc.) if I'm not preoccupied with something else. Ungrateful people don't bother me, I believe that in the larger scheme of things it all balances out

Never gave out items for free, but on occasion's I have grabbed a few Z-keys and went to Shing Jea and gave one to whoever could answer my riddles.

I LOVE answering questions for people, so long they're appreciative, fluent in English so they can understand what I say, and I can understand what they say, and they're willing to listen.
I've always enjoyed helping people. I don't give things out, especially to those who ask. On a blue moon, I might, but beyond that, I think earning their gear is better for them.
Helping with missions I enjoy, though. Since I'm a monk, and they're in high demand for PvE, I often join less-than-good groups just to give them a hand when I could easily do it with Henchman/Heroes. :P

I'll generally answer any question that comes up that I can, and if I see someone trying to scam (offering to buy Imperial Commendations for less than you can get by trading them for superior salvage kits and selling the kits, for instance) I'll call the scammer out. I'll help people with missions and quests occasionally, but usually only when they've been asking for a while and I'm looking for something to do - or when it's a mission or quest I was planning to do sometime anyway, I'll bump it up in priority. If I wasn't working on a thesis, I'd probably do it more often.

Regarding donations of wealth, I usually won't give hard currency - requests for such tend to be either in the 'trivial to gather' range or not - in the former case, I tend to think it would be faster and better for them if they just went and collected it themselves, and in the latter, well, I don't do serious farming myself and what I do get can turn over pretty quickly, so amounts over a plat or so start to become significant costs.

On the other hand, I can be fairly generous with materials (apart from those with values over 1k) - the sort of thing that I figure veteran players tend to have in excess and thus are unlikely to pretend to be newbies in order to abuse the generosity of others, but which can make a significant difference to the new player looking to craft their first max armour set.

I used to occasionally help alliance people with missions back when I had a guild but I've found that people tend to bail halfway during a mission, go afk or leave without so much as a TY. And then the next you know it, the same person is begging in alliance chat for someone to help(hint:run) him through the next mission. Not cool.

I gave 100k to help someone w/ their fow, 50k to someone for their bday, a black dye to a stranger & 2 ectos to another stranger.
I've given other stuff away but that's all I remember. I help friends with missions when I feel like it, I loan money etc etc

Why do I it? Because I'm nice & pixels really dont mean much to me lol

What do I get in return? The satisfaction of helping someone :P

I have never given away anything item-wise in-game. Mostly because I am poor as dirt myself, and I've never really come across someone who actually needs it (e.g., those people standing around for 20 minutes, screaming for 50g to open their storage... If they had just gone outside and killed some monsters or turned in a quest reward, they could've had it already). I have been on the receiving side of such kindness (such as people coming to Ascalon/Spamadan and playing games with all the n00bs there with materials/gold as prizes; or just even then people just giving away excess items for free just because), and I have always been grateful to them. It really is a nice thing to do... It sure makes my day!

I always always always PuG, and enjoy going back to the beginning of the game to help others back there through missions and quests when I can in my free time. I also try to help people by means of information when they need certain help with the game, like, "Where is...?"/"How do I...?"/"What is...?", etc.
